“We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”
At the El Theos Centre, we believe that education is the ultimate equalizer. Our programs are designed to bridge the gap for children who have fallen behind due to displacement or street life, providing them with a customized pathway toward a dignified, self-sufficient future.
Returning to a formal classroom can be a daunting experience for a child who has spent months or years on the margins. We provide a full-support system to ensure their return is permanent and successful:
Enrollment Assistance: Our social workers navigate the administrative hurdles of school placement, maintaining active communication with principals to monitor attendance and progress.
The “Full Kit” Initiative: We remove the barriers of poverty by providing everything a student needs—complete school uniforms, shoes, and stationery. We recently celebrated the successful re-enrollment of four children, and we are currently seeking support to equip 10 more students waiting for their chance to learn.
Academic Excellence: Our approach works. In our most significant historical reporting period, we achieved a 0% failure rate among 75 monitored students, proving that with the right support, every child can succeed.
Not every child’s path leads to a traditional university. For our older youth, we focus on high-impact vocational training that translates directly into employment opportunities. Thanks to our 2025 infrastructure expansion, we now operate a dedicated multifunctional room for:
Carpentry & Woodworking: Teaching precision, patience, and a trade that is always in demand.
Sewing & Textile Arts: Equipping students with the skills to create, repair, and even start small-scale entrepreneurial ventures.
Information Technology & Tutoring: Providing the digital literacy skills necessary for the modern job market.
A trade is only effective when paired with a strong character. Our “Renewed Thinking” curriculum focuses on:
Self-Confidence & Self-Respect: We run dedicated programs to reduce feelings of inferiority and fear, empowering youth to interact with their community with dignity.
Biblical Mentorship: We integrate spiritual guidance into our training, helping children find salvation and a moral compass that guides their decision-making.
Work Readiness: Preparing youth for the professional world through mock interviews, time management, and responsibility training.
We recognize that some youth require specialized technical training beyond our immediate facility. We act as a bridge to Cape Town’s premier vocational institutions:
Salesian Institute Youth Projects: We refer older boys to specialized “Learn to Live” programs for intensive technical schooling.
VRCID Collaboration: Our local partners assist with the logistical challenges of getting youth to and from these specialized training centers.
The transition from the street to a career is the most expensive and intensive part of our work. You can invest in a child’s independence today:
Uniform & Stationery Sponsorship: Provide a child with the dignity to walk into a classroom.
Vocational Workshop Materials: Donate wood, fabric, or tools for our training center.
Rehabilitation Support: Help us cover the R2,500 monthly investment required for complex rehabilitation cases that precede vocational training.
